Jeremy Allen, a native of Arcata, California, began his musical studies on trombone, later switching to guitar and bass. In high school, he was recognized as a State of California Arts Scholar and won awards for instrumental jazz performance. He is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, and educator who specializes in upright and electric bass, Venezuelan Cuatro and Afro-Venezuelan Percussion.
While living in Venezuela, Allen took advantage of the opportunity to learn the rich traditions of Venezuelan music. He recorded and toured with the Venezuelan jazz group The Snake Trio for three years. He has performed with a wide variety of arists in many genres including Jackeline Rago & the Venezuelan Music Project, Kachimbo, Julio Clemente's Orquesta Original, guitarist Alex de Grassi, and hip-hop groups Fiyawata and Empireal. Other artists Allen has worked with include Irene Farrera, Jesus Diaz, Andy Narrel, and Aquiles Baez
In addition to musical performance, Allen directs programs that bring music to youth after school and has performed on several children's recordings.
He was also a featured performer with the San Francisco Symphony's Adventures in Music program. Allen holds a BA in American Studies with an emphasis on Urban Education from UC Berkeley. He is the owner and engineer of Musiquito Productions, an independent record label and recording studio in Oakland, California. |
